Dear Septic,
This is always a great question; regardless if you intend to build a whole new compound/structure, I recommend a septic inspection from a licensed septic contractor. The same contractor will do the due diligence on previous permits for the systems and identify who installed them and when. The permits will inform you if the buildings comply with the current code requirements, and the cool cameras they use to inspect these systems will let you know where the drain field is and if you have any tree roots or other obstructions creeping in that may create future problems. Best of luck with your new purchase!
